The news many of us Liverpool fans have been waiting for: LIVERPOOL football club today won their seismic court battle against co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett. At around 10.45am today Mr Justice Floyd ruled in favour of the English members of the Anfield board in a decision that has massive implications for the Reds. Hicks and Gillett had tried to sack the Liverpool board and block the sale of the club to New England Sports Ventures for £300m. Now the path appears clear for the sale to go through as voted on a 3-2 majority one week ago.

The Chairman of Liverpool Football Club, Martin Broughton, arrives at the High Court in London October 13, 2010. The future of Premier League club Liverpool could be decided on Wednesday when a judge rules in a bitter ownership dispute over whether the board has the right to sell one of the world's most famous sporting institutions. But this is a war and the first battle has been one. There was thought that Hicks and Gillett could appeal this mornings ruling but they have been refused leave to appeal against the decision.

Now what we have to wait and see is NESV go ahead a take over Liverpool or is there still room for a late bid from Singapore firm Meriton who have upped their rival offer to £320m
