What a result! This morning I said we have to win following the slip ups of United and Chelsea yesterday and win we did! I would have taken a hard fought 1-0 result today but getting five with relative ease puts a huge smile on my face. Pity it is a Sunday night and I can’t go out to the pub and knock back a couple!

I honestly did not think we would have it that easy today but I guess we were just awesome and Villa are playing like school kids these days. It is clear to see that the Villa team is tired. I hear they have only used 19 players this whole season and it just goes to show towards the end of the season that the guys are tired. Well I hope this international break coming up will recharge Villa’s batteries so they can go beat United in their next game.

Football - Liverpool v Aston Villa Barclays Premier League

We started todays game very well. We went straight at Villa and attacked them. Why we did not do this against the lesser teams that came to Anfield, I do not know. After 8 minutes we were up thanks to a Dirk Kuyt strike. After that goal went in the next goal was going to be crucial. Thanks to Reina who pulled off some tremendous saves we stayed in the game. I was getting a bit worried at 1-0 as Villa looked to edge back into the game but a wonder strike from Riera made it 2-0.

I am a fan of Riera. He started off the season well but then mid way through the season he went ‘missing’. He was just not the same player who started the season but now he looks like he is getting back to his best and his goal today will add to his confidence. He was looking good on the ball today and was not afraid to run at the Villa defenders and as a result of that he won a soft penalty. I say soft because I do not think it was really a penalty but hey..we will take it. Up steps Stevie G and he converts it just before the break to make it 3-0. At that moment I knew the game was over and the 3 points were in the bag.

I expected Villa to atleast come out fighting in the second half but any hope of that was quickly dashed as Gerrard got our fourth and his second thanks to an accurately struck free kick from the edge of the box. Gerrard made it look so easy! I guess that just shows the class he has. 4-0 up and cruising. Then to add insult to injury Torres wins us a penalty and Friedel gets sent off. I think the sending off was a bit too harsh. Villa were now down to 10 men and Gerrard slotted home the penalty to make it 5-0 and there was still a lot of time to go in the game.

I actually felt sorry for Villa and wished I had a towel to throw in the ring for them. We easily could have added more goals but I guess we took our foot off the gas.

It is a shock to hear us win 5-0 and Torres not getting a single goal. Torres looked out of it today. His touch was just not on and I can’t recall him getting a shot on goal. I guess as a striker you have days like that. But what is good to see is that even when Torres had and off day we still won. Even Gerrard, yes he scored a hat-trick but he was just not at his best form today. His link up play with Torres was just not there. As the commentator said, “There is no symmetry between the two today”. And let’s not forget Gerrard’s goals were all from set pieces. But hey..who am I to complain?

What I also found to be interesting today was when they showed clips of all our goals and Rafa’s reaction after each goal: The guy never smiles or celebrates!

All in all, GREAT result and now we just a point behind United. They may still have a game in hand but we just need to keep doing what we doing and I am sure they will slip up again.

Amazing display following on from a fantastic couple of results last week ! Why oh why could we not play like this a few months back ? Think Man u are feeling the pressure now and the title is getting sweaty in their greasy little mitts and they’re letting it slip ……… Hopefully we will be there to catch it !
I feel a renewed sense of optimism …. come on you reds ! lol

Great result. Pissed off that the international break has come up and that could spoil our momentum and Torres always comes back injured when he plays for Spain!
