Villarreal v Liverpool - Pre Season Friendly

I hope this run of draws in pre-season is not a sign on things to come when the real action starts on 16 August. Tonights result against Villarreal was Liverpool’s third draw in a row in pre-season. A bit worrying was that we failed to score but on the other hand we did not concede any. The night seemed to be more about debuts than anything else. Firstly, Liverpool were debuting the new grey kit which just brings back memories from 1990 when we wore a very similar looking kit sponsored by Candy. We were an awesome team then and I hope this grey kit brings us the success we had back then.

Robbie Keane started his first game for The Reds so to did fellow new signing David Ngog. The starting lineup in full was: Cavalieri, Dossena, Hyypia, Skrtel, Darby, Benayoun, Gerrard (captain), Plessis, Keane, Voronin, Ngog. Subs – Carragher, Arbeloa, Finnan, Pacheco, Kuyt, Torres, Alonso, Nemeth, Agger, Reina, Pennant.

Hopefully Rafa will start with a more familiar lineup against Rangers on the weekend. My hope is to see Keane and Torres on the field at the same time as we did not get the chance to see that today. The youngsters seem to be getting some good minutes in pre-season with Darby and Plessis really catching the eye. Nemeth also got his first run out for the senior team tonight but he did not last for long as Torres then came on for him.

there is no reason at all to worry. preseason means nothing at all. our starters are not getting legit playing time and KKKKEEEEEAAAAANNNNNNEEEEEE-O wasn’t playing. fear not.

No real reason to worry as you said Nickson. I guess lets just get match fit first and then the goals will start to come. Rafa has said we will see Keane and Torres together very soon. Just hope the Barry thing gets sorted out quickly so Alonso knows if he is staying or not so he can get focussed. A focussed Alonso will be great especially judging by the good glimpses he showed last night.
