It appears that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich saw all he needed to see during Sunday’s Euro 2008 final. It has come to light in the Daily Star that he is prepared to spend more on Torres than even Madrid is thinking of tossing out for Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

With their supposed initial bid of £50 million turned down cold, it comes as no surprise to me that they are back for more. Abramovich apparently won’t take no for an answer. You just have to wonder how far this charade will go. I don’t think there is any price at which we can sell Torres, unless we are willing to sell our opportunity to win the Premiership.

What is worth more to Tom Hicks and George Gillett, however, may be just that…..the cash. They have already shown a huge chasm to be in place between them and Liverpool supporters. I have to think that if the check gets big enough, Torres may be on his way. It really comes down to just how far both sides will go.

My fingers are crossed.

I am caught between a rock and a hard place on this one. 85m is a lot of money and we could buy 4 world class 20m players if we sell Torres BUT there is no way Torres can leave!!! He is our star and our only hope to win the premiership!

Seba.. i know you have always wanted to be a Liverpool fan. Torres aint going to Chelski so you may as wel come join us for the good times that lie ahead at Anfield next season.

I think could sell to anyone else for 85m other than Manure and Chelski.

If Madrid were to offer it, I’d say do it. Otherwise, let’s just build from what we have, which is a substantial base. Our central players are on par with the other big four clubs, we just need to improve our first team wide areas. With the cash put aside from the previous financing, and now whatever we can generate from player sales, there is no reason to think we can’t bring in the class necessary for a run at the title this season.

    No sale hopefully.

if they offer 85 mill or more, it would be stupid not to accept. altho everyone at anfield loves torres, you have to be logical. you could even try and bid for cristiano ronaldo and you could forsure get villa with that. so ask yourself, would you trade torres for villa and ronaldo? exactly.

I don’t think I could live with myself to see Ronaldo in a Liverpool shirt. Iam not sure which is worse; that or seeing Stevie G in a Manure shirt?

I wouldn’t actually. I think Villa is vastly overrated in terms of his proposed production in England. He doesn’t possess that same physical presence that El Nino does. As for Ronaldo, it’s a personal thing. I would be physically ill to see him in a Liverpool shirt. Send him to Spain or perhaps Russia and god speed in my opinion.

That’s not to say I don’t agree with your assessment, if the price gets outrageous then it would be best for the team quite possibly. No doubt about that, but for Villa and Ronaldo? No thanks.
