Liverpool’s search for a left-back may finally be over as it is being reported in the Independent that the Reds are close to securing a deal for Olympiacos’ Konstantinos Tsimikas with the player expected to have a medical next week.
The deal for the Greek international is said to be in the region of £11.75m. This comes after Liverpool had reportedly bid £10m for Norwich’s Jamal Lewis. That bid was rejected with the relegated Premier League club seeking close to £20m.
What this has shown is that Liverpool will not be bullied into paying over the top prices for players. Jamal Lewis is a very good player with Premier League experience and great potential but Liverpool clearly had a value assinged for him and it seems Norwich will not be willing to meet that. It has been said that Lewis would be keen to join Liverpool but that opportunity may now have ended for him.
Many may not know much about Tsimikas but he has been extensively looked at by the Reds and he fits the bill of being a young attack minded full back who also comes with Champions League experience.
Left-back was an area Liverpool needed a backup for Andy Roberston and it seems like that piece of the jigsaw may be complete soon.
