Some Liverpool fans found themselves getting emotional about an update from the club this afternoon, as they tweeted a video of former striker Fernando Torres speaking about his upcoming return to Anfield.

The Spanish striker; who retired in June, will return to Anfield for a charity legends match against Barcelona in March of next year. The 35-year-old scored 81 goals in 142 games for Liverpool and was widely regarded as a Liverpool legend, but broke the hearts of Reds fans when he moved to Chelsea in 2011 for £50 million, which at the time was a British transfer fee record.

Torres originally joined Liverpool from Atletico Madrid in 2007 for a reported £20 million having come through the youth ranks at the Spanish club and proved an instant hit at Anfield, scoring 33 goals in an incredible debut season. Perhaps best remembered by English fans for his goal against Blackburn for Liverpool in 2009.

The Spaniard will be hoping to make a similar impact when he returns to Anfield next year, telling the club that he is very hopeful that he can find the net in the charity game.

Some of the best reactions from Liverpool fans ahead of Torres’ return can be seen in the tweets below.

Despite some fans feeling betrayed by Torres, there can be no doubt that these fans are excited to see El Nino back in a Liverpool shirt in the near future.

What do we think?

Torres in his prime was arguably one of the best strikers in the world, playing a major part in the Spanish national team’s dominance between 2008-2010; as he scored in their Euro 2008 and Euro 2012 wins as well as being part of the 2010 World Cup-winning squad. Liverpool fans will rightly be looking forward to his return to Anfield.
