When Spanish goalkeeper Adrian signed for Liverpool this summer, he probably would not have expected to be thrown into the starting eleven so early.

Adrian, who was signed in August to replace the outgoing Simon Mignolet, was widely expected to be back-up to Alisson; who was recently named Best Fifa Men’s Goalkeeper. However, when the Brazilian was injured in the season opener against Norwich, Adrian made his Liverpool debut from the bench.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper had been at West Ham since 2013 but ended up leaving the London club this summer after his contract expired, so opted to make the move to the Champions League winners on a free. Alisson returned to action in Liverpool’s draw with Manchester United this month, so Adrian has now returned to the bench, but that hasn’t stopped Reds fans supporting the Spaniard on Twitter.

Adrian, who is valued at £4.5 million (Transfermarkt), posted a picture of himself at Melwood training ground and received lots of praise from Liverpool fans after his recent run in the team had come to an end. Reds fans are hopeful that the Spaniard will be back between the sticks for Liverpool’s Carabao Cup tie against Arsenal on Wednesday.

Some of the best reactions to Adrian’s form since signing for Liverpool can be seen in the tweets from fans below.

Liverpool fans are clearly happy with the form of Adrian since signing in the summer and are hopeful that the former West Ham man continues to be a reliable back-up to Alisson.

What do we think?

Adrian has done exactly what was expected of him since joining Liverpool, with a respectable 6.4 average rating in his 10 Premier League appearances so far. Of course, he will always be back-up to Alisson, but has shown that he can do an excellent job when called upon by Jurgen Klopp. Adrian may well start at Anfield on Wednesday as Liverpool look to try and progress in the Carabao Cup fourth round against Arsenal, with Alisson possibly getting some rest.
