Borussia Monchengladbach are stepping up their chase for Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Doucoure, according to German magazine Kicker.

France Football yesterday reported that Liverpool chief scout Kevin Hunt had visited Paris in the last week to scout both senior player Javier Pastore and youth team member Doucoure.

The 17 year old was part of the PSG side that lost 2-1 to Chelsea in the final of this season’s UEFA Youth League and is seen as a promising young prospect at the French club, but Gladbach are expected to give the young centre back his first professional contract.

Doucoure could even be in Gladbach’s first team plans next season with Martin Hinteregger not expected to be retained by the German club after his loan from Red Bull Salzburg expires in the summer.

As we reported yesterday, Liverpool have also been linked with Doucoure’s team mate and fellow defender Fode Toure. He is being tracked by a number of Premier League clubs including Manchester City.
