Liverpool great Jan Molby has praised the recent performances of Reds vice-captain James Milner.

The 30 year old made the first two goals against Everton in the Merseyside derby in midweek and now has 14 assists in all competitions this season, creating seven goals in his last 4 matches. After being named man of the match against Everton, Molby now believes that the England midfielder should be getting more credit for his performances, writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo:

“It’s time James Milner began getting the credit he deserves. Ever since arriving at Anfield in the summer, he has gone under the radar somewhat. Milner has always been regarded as something of a workhorse and he is very much still that. But he has good quality. A lot of good quality.”

Molby thinks Milner is playing as well as he did when playing centrally for Aston Villa back in 2010:

“Milner is involved all over the pitch, which he always has been, to be fair. He is enjoying his game at the moment, and it’s probably the most free he has ever played during his career. There have been question marks over his role as a central midfielder, but for me his best season at Aston Villa was from that position. He has pride in his work, and that’s now being rewarded.”

His stats for this season are impressive to say the least with 7 goals and 14 assists in 37 matches in all competitions. The Reds will be hoping he can supply even more goals in both in the Europa League and the remaining matches left in the Premier League this campaign.
