Roma’s Kevin Mendez has revealed in an interview that he turned down offers from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain before moving Roma last summer.
The 20 year old has been on loan at Perugia and Swiss side Lausanne Sport since his move from Uruguayan side Penarol at the beginning of the season and the striker confirmed to Cesola la Roma that he believed he would get the most chances to succeed as a young player at the Italian club:
“Liverpool, PSG, and Roma had made ??a concrete offer and I with my agent decided to come here because Roma are a strong team who works well with the young players.”
Mendez appeared in 2 matches for Uruguay in the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand last year and had been scouted by the Reds since 2013 after a recommendation from former striker Luis Suarez, according to the Daily Star.
Liverpool face Everton in the Merseyside Derby tonight with the possibility of moving ahead of West Ham into sixth place, seven points behind third placed Manchester City with a game in hand.
