Manchester City are in “advanced talks” to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, according to Sky Sports. The 25 year old has also been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks as rumours have circulated that Reds manager Jurgen Klopp wants to bring in a number of players who played for him at Dortmund, including Mario Gotze.

Gundogan did not play for Dortmund against Liverpool in the first leg of the Europa League quarter final due to a foot injury, but speculation has increased about a move away from the German club as he is not prepared to sign a new long term deal to stay at Signal Iduna Park. His current contract expires at the end of next season and it is looking more likely that Dortmund will look to cash in on the player.

The German international now looks to be closer to signing with the Manchester club with Sky Sports believing there is only €10m difference between Dortmund’s asking price of €35m and City’s €25m valuation of the player. Gundogan came on as a second half substitute against Schalke in a 2-2 draw in the league at the weekend and will be expected to play at least some part in the second leg at Anfield with the tie finely poised after a 1-1 draw in Germany.
