Liverpool are set to add another striker to the club, this time with Nigerian Under 23 star Taiwo Awoniyi, according to AfricanFootball.com.
The report states: Nigeria U23 striker Taiwo Awoniyi will be loaned out to a club in either Belgium or Holland when he signs for English Premier League club Liverpool, AfricanFootball.com can exclusively reveal.
Awoniyi will be 18 on Wednesday and that will allow him to now sign a professional contract.
However, Liverpool could not apply for work permit for him using the special talent clause because the player has been busy with the country’s Olympic team in qualifiers for both the All Africa Games and the CAF U23 Championship.
“It’s almost too late to apply for a work permit for him using the special talent clause because he has been with the U23 team and as such he will go on loan to a club either in Belgium or Holland in the first instance,” a top source informed only AfricanFootball.com
Awoniyi has also represented Nigeria at U15, U17 and U20 levels.
Based on this, Liverpool are making another signing for the future. There is no problem at all with this and it seems to be the policy that FSG have brought into the club. There is hope for these young players for as long as Brendan Rodgers is at the club as he is not afraid of giving young players an opportunity in the first team. We saw Joe Gomez get his Premier League debut on Sunday in the 1-0 win over Stoke and he is only 18-years old, whilst 19-year old Jordan Ibe could be a regular in the first team this season.
