Brendan Rodgers has today confirmed James Milner as Liverpool’s vice-captain. Milner who joined the club this summer on a free transfer from Manchester City will be the deputy to new club captain Jordan Henderson.

Rodgers announced the news this afternoon during his first pre-match conference of the new season.

It dose not come as a surprise to many that Rodgers decided to go with Milner although some would say that long serving players such as Martin Skrtel and Lucas could have gotten the nod.

With Henderson and Milner set to form the heart of the Liverpool midfield this season it is going to be interesting to watch how their relationship forms and if it is strong enough to propel Liverpool back into the top four.
