Liverpool have been linked with a move for Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko according to the Daily Star. The French international is valued at £17million and it is also being suggested that Manchester City are after his signature.

I have said on several occasions that if there is one area I would want Liverpool to strengthen, it is our central midfield. Currently we have Henderson, Milner, Can, Lucas and Allen as the established players who can fill in and how well they do is all centred around how Brendan Rodgers decides to play. If Rodgers opts to play with a holding midfielder alongside two other central midfielders then it would most likely be Can holding and Henderson and Milner infront. Lucas and Allen will provide the cover but both players have bad injury records and cover is certainly needed in that department.

Sissoko would be a good signing as he is established in the Premier League and would not need a season to get adjusted to the league. The Newcastle midfielder is also very capable of playing as a box-to-box midfielder or be pushed further up the field as he did a lot for Newcastle last season.

My biggest concern though would be the £17million valuation. If Liverpool can manage to get him for less and the player wants to join the club then I think it would be a good deal. The Reds should get in another central midfielder and preferably cover for left back and then our summer spending spree can be over.

McClaren has said on radio that he doesn’t want Sissoko sold and has told his M.D.accordingly. Furthermore Sissoko is in the middle of his contract.
