Jamie Carragher has warned Raheem Sterling Liverpool fans might turn against him, the longer negotiations over a new contract continue.
The 20-year-old has reportedly been offered a deal worth £100,000 a week, yet Sterling and his advisors are said to be holding out for more money.
Sterling has put negotiations on hold until the end of the season, which has coincided with a recent dip in form.
“We all like to maximise what we can earn in any industry but this standoff won’t help his relationship with fans or his performances,” Carragher said.
“The fans frustration though also comes from his contract situation, the longer it continues the more frustration there will be & it paints him & his advisors in a bad light.
“Raheem Sterling’s performance on Sunday received a lot of criticism & he was nowhere near his best but he’s never really looked comfortable in that wingback role, no one has apart from Jordan Ibe.”
