Mamadou Sakho has praised the mentality of his Liverpool teammates, following their crucial 3-2 win over Tottenham on Tuesday evening.
The Reds moved to within three points of the top four, with Mario Balotelli firing the winning goal from the bench with just seven minutes remaining at Anfield.
The goal came after Liverpool were twice pegged back by an in form Tottenham side, and Sakho was delighted with the way in which his side showed character to come away with the three points.
“It was a very good game for the team,” he told the club’s official website afterwards. “We were very strong mentally and we stayed focused on our objective.
“I think altogether we worked for this and tonight I think the team stayed focused and we demonstrated a good mentality.”
Sakho also had words of praise for Emre Can, with the young German delivering a man of the match peformance as a part of the back three, whilst later moving forward into midfield.
“Today he played very, very well,” commented Sakho. “I just want to say congratulations to him.
“But, for me, the most important thing is that all the players think to give 100 per cent for the team, because the most important thing is that we’re a club.”
On Balotelli’s first Premier League goal for the club, the Frenchman added: “It’s great news for him, for the team and for the club.
“I hope he will score many goals for the team because he is a very good man and I know every day he works hard in training. I’m happy for him.”
