Brendan Rodgers believes Liverpool still boast the best English striker in the Premier League, despite Harry Kane firing 22 goals for Tottenham in all competitions this season.

Sturridge is in line for his first Liverpool start in more than five months, having last started for the Reds in the 3-0 win at White Hart Lane on August 31.

The game is being billed as the battle of the two forwards who could soon be partners for the England national side, and Rodgers is backing his man to come out on top.

“For me, there’s not anyone better than Daniel Sturridge,” the Northern Irishman said. “He’s got everything in his game if he’s playing consistently. His goalscoring record, his pace, his power, he’s got everything and, as an English striker, there’s no-one better than him.

“But I’m sure Daniel will look at it that there’s another young English striker coming through and that will really help him when they come together at international level.”

Problem with Sturridge is he can’t stay fit 5 minutes. Give me Kane any day.

Sturridge has been more consistent over the past 2 or 3 seasons but as good as he is I dont think he’ll get any better and is probably peaking now, whereas kane has got at least the next 5 years to improve even more. So yes maybe but not much better than kane but Harry will overtake him eventually.
