Liverpool have been dealt a major blow with the news that Lucas Leiva is set to be ruled out for four weeks with a groin injury.

The Brazilian limped off after 16 minutes of Saturday’s Merseyside derby with Everton, and now looks set to miss crucial Premier League matches against Tottenham, Manchester City and Southampton, as well as the FA Cup clash with Crystal Palace and the Europa League game against Besiktas.

Lucas has been central to the Reds recent revival, with Liverpool losing just one of their last 12 matches in which he has started – the extra time defeat to Chelsea in the Capital One Cup semi final.

Joe Allen came on to replace Lucas on Saturday, and could start in his place for tomorrow’s game with Tottenham.

An alternative for Brendan Rodgers to consider could be moving Emre Can into midfield and putting Dejan Lovren as the third centre back in the 3-4-2-1 formation.
