Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool gave it everything over the two legs of their Capital One Cup semi final against Chelsea.

The Reds missed out on a trip to Wembley after going down to a 1-0 defeat following extra time at Stamford Bridge.

Rodgers reckons his side deserved more over the two legs, and says he was proud of the performances given by his players against the current Premier League leaders.

“I think we were the better side over the two games, but ultimately you’ve got to get the place in the final,” the boss said after the final whistle in west London.

“I think the goalkeeper for them has won them the tie really. Performance-wise, we were outstanding. Again tonight, some of our play was very good and we created chances.

“There weren’t going to be many chances in the game for both sides, but certainly in the first half we created enough to maybe get a couple of goals.

“But their ‘keeper made some very good saves and ultimately, I think, has won them the tie.

“I sit here with pride. There’s disappointment we haven’t got through, but Chelsea arrived at the top of their game when they came to Anfield last week and we were outstanding and should have won that game.

“Tonight we were very, very good again. The learning for us is to make the next step – you saw a lot of young players out there working, and now we’ve got to make the next step and try to go on and win a trophy.”

Yes we did give it everything, unfortunately it was not good enough in the end. If you Rodgers had done the right things in the summer with your signings, maybe we would not be in this position. Trying not to repeat myself over and over again regarding your inability to manage this club in a befitting way of a Liverpool Manager. At the end of the day it’s so very hard to any respect for you.

The very fact we had so many chances over the two legs and we did not put them away why? Once again You Mr know it all Rodgers can’t see further than your big nose…..Borini ,Lambert, Balottelli, Markoviic, Allen, Asps, just were are the goals coming from. Then we come to the defence, after shipping more than fifty goals the previous season, you then bring in Loveren and Sakho, you persevere with Mignolet another one of your signings. Now we hear you want to give Johnson an extended contract when he has been hopeless for the last eighteen months. Top managers help attract top players!, which speaks volumes about your signings.

You may have a silky tounge in convincing our owners and some of our younger supporters that your the right person to take this club forward, but for us old folk we cannot and will not be taken in by you, we can see through you, because between your ears their is one big empty space. Your arrogance is unbelievable. ..my god you have a lot to answer for.
