Brendan Rodgers says he was delighted with the performance but disappointed with the result, as Liverpool were held to a 1-1- draw against Chelsea in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi final at Anfield.
The Reds dominated the possession and attempts on goal, but could only manage one goal courtesy of Raheem Sterling – whilst an Eden Hazard penalty brought the league leaders a goal with their only attempt on target.
“I’m delighted with the performance, disappointed with the result,” Rodgers said after the game.
“We thoroughly deserved to win the game.
“We showed wonderful character.
“Some of our play was very impressive and it sets up the second leg perfectly because they’ve probably got to open up a bit more.
“It’s still all to play for. It was a great game and that shows the improvements that we’re making.”
It’s not often I agree with you after all I am one of your biggest critics. Yes, we deserved to win that game, and maybe if you had signed the correct players we needed during the summer, we may have done.
