Raheem Sterling is ‘nowhere near’ signing a new contract according to talkSPORT, despite some reports this week that had suggested the Liverpool winger was set to sign a five year extension by the end of the month.
Sterling has been Liverpool’s outstanding performer this season with six goals in all competitions.
Reports last month claimed the 20-year-old had turned down an offer of £70,000 a week, but the deal was expected to eb signed shortly.
However, talkSPORT reporter Warren Haughton believes this is not the case.
“There were suggestions he [Raheem Sterling] had agreed or was very close to extending his stay at Liverpool. My understanding is he is nowhere near agreeing a new contract with Liverpool,” he said.
“They have been speaking for a good few months now and he has already turned down one contract offer and they are nowhere near agreeing any new contract at all.”
