Liverpool are still the favourites to land Xherdan Shaqiri, despite reports today suggesting Inter Milan were set to pip the Reds to the signing.

The Express believes Liverpool are in pole position to land the Switzerland international, with Inter having made Chelsea flop Mohamed Salah a priority signing.

The 22-year-old Egyptian moved to Stamford Bridge only last January – after the Reds failed to complete his signing.

He has struggled to adapt to English football in that time, and Inter hope to sign him on a loan deal this month.

That would leave the door open for Liverpool to land Shaqiri, who is desperate to leave Bayern Munich having only started three matches all season.

Reports suggest Liverpool have offered the 23-year-old a lucrative long term contract, and will initially sign the former Basel man on loan until the end of the season with the option to make the deal permanent for £8million.
