Liverpool are poised to beat Inter Milan to the signing of Bayern Munich star Xherdan Shaqiri, according to various reports.

The Reds were set to go head to head with the Italian giants for the Swiss international’s signature, but reports suggest Brendan Rodgers side have come out on top by offering better wages.

Shaqiri is set to leave the Allianz Arena this month having grown frustrated with his lack of regular playing time with the Bundesliga champions.

Reports suggest the Reds are set to pay £1.5million to loan the 23-year-old for the remainder of the season, with the option to buy him for a further £8million in the summer.

Crucially, the Reds have offered Shaqiri £10,000 a week more in wages.

Inter Milan had seemed the favourites to land the talented playmaker, however their signing of Lukas Podolski from Arsenal seems to have proved a distraction, with the Reds now hopeful of completing the deal shortly.
