Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana is set to face Manchester United with broken ribs on Sunday, according to the Daily Mirror.

The £25million summer signing from Southampton was left as an unused substitute as the Reds crashed out of the Champions League on Tuesday night, but has put himself back in contention for a start this weekend.

Many supporters were left questioning why Lallana was not even brought on as a substitute against Basel in midweek, but news of the injury suffered during his goal scoring appearance at Leicester has gone some way as to explaining why.

Brendan Rodgers also has Mario Balotelli in contention for a start at Old Trafford, after the Italian striker sat out the Reds last six matches in all competitions after suffering an injury whilst on international duty.

Lazar Markovic also looks set to travel with the squad, despite the former Benfica winger being shown a straight red card just 15 minutes after coming on as a substitute on Tuesday evening.
