Brendan Rodgers insists Liverpool will fight as hard as they can to turn their season around, following the disappointment of crashing out of the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

The Reds now face the prospect of Europa League football in the new year, having gone out of Group B with just five points from six matches – and one victory.

But Rodgers insists Liverpool still have plenty to play for this season, and says his team will show fight in order to turn their campaign around.

“When you don’t qualify everyone gets looked on. Across the board we have been looked at and analysed,” Rodgers said.

“For us the solution is simple, we have to be better in our performance level. That is everyone; the manager and the players.

“There is disappointment but now we have to fight for the rest of the season and make it a success.

“We are going to fight as hard as we can to make sure it is not another five years (before Liverpool return to the Champions League).

“It is a very exciting period for us. The focus is only really on our next game.

“We will go into that and look to perform better and hopefully get a result.”
