Liverpool have offered Glen Johnson a new two-year-deal to stay at Anfield, however the defender will be forced to take a 50% pay cut should he choose to stay.
Johnson is one of Liverpool’s highest earners, on a reported £120,000 a week, but the new deal would see him earn closer to the £60,000 mark.
Johnson is in the final year of his contract at Anfield, and can start talking to other clubs about a bosman deal as early as January.
Reports suggest he is reluctant to accept the deal with the terms being offered, casting doubt over his Anfield future.
Italian side AS Roma have been linked with a January move.
