Liverpool look set to face a battle for the signature of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, despite reports earlier in the month the Reds had agreed a £38million deal for the frontman, reports the Daily Star.

Arsenal were interested in signing the France international during the summer, however Arsene Wenger opted to sign Danny Welbeck from Manchester United instead.

Benzema since signed a new long term deal at the Bernabeu, but reports in Spain suggest the Frenchman is unsettled in Madrid, who are willing to sell in January.

Liverpool registered their interest earlier in the month, and were told they could sign the 26-year-old for a fee of £38.8million.

But Arsenal look set to challenge the Reds for his signature, with Arsene Wenger reigniting his interest having seen his side win just two of their opening seven Premier League games this season.

No it was the Higuain deal wasn’t it ? Easier to get shut of a Lada than Lucas as the summer window proved .
