Liverpool are plotting a January move for Napoli star Marek Hamsik, according to the Daily Star.
Brendan Rodgers is said to be scouring the European market for top talent, having seen his side make a disappointing start to the 2014-15 season.
27-year-old Slovakian Hamsik fits the bill, having caught the attention of a number of top clubs with some fine performances in recent seasons.
The uncertainty surrounding Napoli at present also makes him a possible candidate, with former Reds boss Rafael Benitez under pressure at the Serie A club.
Napoli failed to qualify for the Champions League after losing a play off to Athletic Bilbao, and have found themselves in some financial difficulty since.
One solution would be to sell some players in order to raise funds, and Hamsik would likely demand the biggest fee, with reports in Spain suggesting the Reds are ready to make a January offer.
The Reds have also been linked with January moves for Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus, and Hamsik’s Napoli teammate Gonzalo Higuain.
