These past few months Liverpool fans have come to realise that our depth in midfield is not exactly as good as we thought, and injuries to Emre Can and Joe Allen have left a big gap in the defensive part of our game. Midfields have easily been able to expose Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson has just had too much to do to make an impact, up until last weekend.

But in terms of finding that extra energy for the team that only Jordan Henderson can bring, I think Fabian Delph could well be a candidate that Brendan Rodgers will look at, especially because of his displays this calendar year. Delph would be available for a free at the end of the season and it would mean we could focus our attentions on bolstering other areas of the squad.

I have already touched on this, but Delph would bring immense pace to our midfield and he is a very hard worker. He has featured in a diamond before with Aston Villa, and he would certainly fit the profile that FSG have given to Brendan Rodgers and the team.

It is no surprise that Delph has broken into the England set up because he brings something to the table not many midfielders have, good passing skills, great feet and a decent shot. Under the tutorship of Brendan Rodgers, I think that Delph would be able to become a very good player for the team. Delph has already been linked to Arsenal, Everton and Manchester United this season, and it shows that now his talents are being recognised.

We all know it is the problems with our defence that have been pointed out. But it is the stupid errors from midfield, where we were so good last season, that have really left our defence with no chance on a number of occasions. Of course at times the defence have made horrible mistake, but in order to provide them with better cover Delph would be a good option and would also mean Steven Gerrard would stay in the team.

However, should Delph decide to sign a new deal with Villa I would see no point in paying the sort of price tag Villa would put on his head. Because although he has all the tools to become a very good player for us, I don’t think £15million plus on him would represent good enough value.

Would you like to see Fabian Delph at Liverpool? Let us know your thoughts below.
