Liverpool are hoping to complete the signing of former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes within the next two weeks, according to the Daily Star.
The Spaniard has been on Brendan Rodgers’ radar since it was announced he would be leaving Barcelona at the end of his contract in the summer.
A serious knee injury has delayed his move to Anfield, but Valdes is understood to be undergoing stringent medical tests to prove his fitness ahead of a move.
His likely arrival will crank up the pressure on Simon Mignolet, who has failed to impress as the clubs first choice goalkeeper since his £9million arrival from Sunderland in summer 2013.
Valdes – a three times Champions League winner – will bring experience and quality to Brendan Rodgers squad, with reports in Spain suggesting he could even be in line to make his debut in the Reds next fixture, away to Premier League’s bottom club QPR on October 19.
