Brendan Rodgers has criticised his Liverpool players for their latest poor performance, which resulted in a Champions League defeat at the hands of FC Basel.

The Reds fell to a 1-0 defeat in Switzerland, losing to a goal from a corner on 52 minutes.

The goal was the fourth Liverpool have conceded from set pieces this season, and Rodgers acknowledges it is an area he must address quickly if things are to improve.

“It was far too soft the goal we conceded and it is not the first one,” said the Reds boss. It was a disappointing goal to concede with all the work we do on the training field.

“Basle have a great record against English teams but tonight was a good opportunity to get at least a point out of the game.”

Liverpool have now suffered four defeats in nine matches this season, and Rodgers admits his side are nowhere near the levels they reached during the 2013-14 campaign.

Rodgers said: “I don’t think we’re anywhere near technically where we were at last year. I’m hoping with the return of the players coming back from injury that we will become better. It’s important that we get back to playing as a team. We need to ensure we get back to that.

“It’s frustrating at times.”

  1. Rodgers is a foolish coach who don’t know how to talk to supporters……. He always get something to say when liverpool loses a match……. At sometimes he says slow start…… As a good coach you will never say slow start so when ur players start means you are very poor manager…… Rodgers need to be sack right now before it is early.

  2. i don’t know why Rodgers always let that foolish Balotelli to led the attack, he always get angry when he got the ball ……… I think that 4-2-3-1 doen’t help liverpool right now he need to pair Balotelli and Borini or Lambert in 4-4-2. Foolish manager spending money to buy useless players.

  3. Rodgers is a disgracing manager……….. Balotelli, Markovic, Gerrard, Mignolet, B Rodgers all of them are our problem now they need to be sack.
