Liverpool are nearing closer to a £38million deal to sign Real Madrid striker and Arsenal target Karim Benzema, according to the Daily Star.
The French international was heavily linked with a move away from the Champions League winners in the summer, with Liverpool and Arsenal amongst the clubs interested.
In the end he opted to stay at the Bernabeu, signing a new long term contract in July.
But reports in Spain suggest both clubs remain interested in signing the 26-year-old, with Brendan Rodgers said to have already held talks with Real chiefs over a January switch.
The Spanish giants have told Rodgers he can sign Benzema for a fee of £38.8million, with the forward understood to be unsettled and considering his options.
Rodgers is keen to sign a new striker after a poor start to the season which sees Liverpool sitting 14th in the Premier League table, and with a win and a defeat in their Champions League group.
Benzema could well be the man to save their season, with the former Lyon man having scored 113 goals in 243 appearances for Los Bloncos.
