Since the exit of Jamie Carragher, Liverpool have been on an upward trajectory. The Merseyside idol ended his playing days in 2013 after a long and successful career at Anfield in which he helped his side to claim cups and, most famously, the 2005 Champions League.

The Reds came closer than ever to a first Premier League title last term as the missed out to Manchester City by just two points, with ‘Carra’s’ exit put somewhat under the spotlight. Although the club enjoyed success, a poor defensive record ultimately cost them the crown, with 50 goals conceded – the worst record in the top five.

Had the ‘Bootle Boy’ been in Brendan Rodgers’ back four, then perhaps things would have been better for the Merseysiders, with the now football analyst’s experience and influence having been key for them for much of the 15 years before his exit.
