Simon Mignolet made one eight-year-old Liverpool fan’s birthday one to remember, by surprising him at a Chinese restaurant where he was celebrating, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The Liverpool stopper is understood to have spotted eight-year-old Jamie Martin wearing a replica goalkeeper shirt with Mignolet on the back, and gone to sit with him and join the birthday celebrations.

Jamie’s uncle, Kevin Wrigley, said: “His birthday present was the Simon Mignolet kit and he had it on as he was sat with his dad and aunties.

“Five minutes later Simon Mignolet walked into the restaurant and they sat him at the next table.

“Jamie was starstruck, he couldn’t open his mouth.

“He will be telling all his friends at school – they probably won’t believe him!”

After spotting the youngster wearing his colours, Mignolet went over and sat down, signed his birthday card and posed for pictures.

Mr Wrigley, 60, from West Derby, said: “He was just dumbstruck. After the meal he had a football birthday cake and they all sang happy birthday.

“All the family are Reds. His dad Kevin was over the moon. He said ‘we couldn’t have planned it’.

“Simon Mignolet was brilliant with him. He’s a top man. He made his birthday one to remember.”
