Real Madrid are lining up a shock January move for Glen Johnson, according to the Daily Star.
The publication claims the European champions want to sign the 30-year-old as a replacement for former Reds full back Alvaro Arbeloa, whose future in Spain has become uncertain.
Johnson has entered the final year of his contract at Anfield, and is free to talk to other clubs in January.
Liverpool are reluctant to offer the former Chelsea man a contract that matches his current £110,000 a week wages, and are likely to listen to offers.
Brendan Rodgers has strengthened his full back options with the summer signings of Javier Manquillo and Alberto Moreno, whilst Jon Flanagan and Jose Enrique remain options.
Johnson has also been linked with Italian giants Napoli and Juventus, but Real’s financial power make them the new favourites for his signature.
Real linked with Johnson!!! Talk about a media joke of the day. Why in the world would Real show any interest in him. Now Italy, I could see that. Liverpool should not only be reluctant to talk about a new contract, they should flat out refuse to. He is way, way overpaid and so not worth the money.
