Liverpool and Manchester United are set to go head-to-head for the signature of Barcelona star Dani Alves, according to the Express.
The Brazilian is out of contract at the Nou Camp at the end of the season, and it appears new Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has no intent of offering him an extension.
That would leave the 31-year-old free to talk to other clubs as early as January, and Liverpool are understood to have expressed an interest.
Alves was close to moving to Anfield during the Rafael Benitez era, however the club failed to match the asking price of Sevilla – Alves’ former club.
Brendan Rodgers looks set to go up against new Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal to sign the wing-back on a short term deal for the 2015-16 season.
Alves may be considered as a possible replacement for Glen Johnson, with the 30-year-old having been linked with the likes of Napoli, Juventus and Real Madrid in recent weeks.
