Victor Valdes will join Liverpool next month providing he passes a medical, according to various reports in Spain.
The 32-year-old is a free agent having left Barcelona in the summer, but is currently out of action having suffered a cruciate injury in March.
Valdes had been expected to join French moneybags Monaco, only for the Ligue 1 club to pull the plug on deal due to the injury.
But Brendan Rodgers is keen to add serious competition for Simon Mignolet, and is reported to have agreed personal terms with the Spanish goalkeeper.
The deal will go through next month provided Valdes passes his medical tests, with Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, saying that sources from Anfield confirm the deal and that “Valdes loves Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers loves Valdes’ style”.
