After news has come out that Daniel Agger is departing Liverpool it time to start looking for a new vice-captain. In our squad there are plenty of leaders and the obvious candidate would be Martin Skrtel because of his lengthy stay at the club.
But for me you cannot look beyond Jordan Henderson, since Brendan Rodgers has arrived at Liverpool Henderson has showed superb commitment to the team and definitely deserves this chance. Henderson has now made himself a key fixture in this quality Reds team despite being cast out by Rodgers when he arrived in 12/13.
So let’s look at Henderson in depth, last season only Steve Sidwell, Mark Noble and Mile Jedinak covered more ground than Henderson, showing that the England international is the sort of player that takes responsibility for others. In fact, it is the view of many Liverpool fans that Henderson was the legs of two players which allowed Steven Gerrard to flourish in his new position.
So when you are taking responsibility for the captain of the team surely you deserve some sort of reward for your effort. Now is the chance to give Henderson that reward, he is probably the most important player in the squad at the moment because of the energy he brings to the team.
Yet he is such a humble person and would be an ideal candidate for the armband itself when Gerrard hangs up his boots. Henderson being suspended for those three games at the end of last season lost us the league. He is the sort of player that when he is out of the side you realise what you are missing. Even Brendan Rodgers himself admitted that it was Henderson’s absence that lost us the league and said he could not replace his energy.
This young Liverpool team need leaders and I think that Jordan Henderson is ready to take that sort of responsibility on his shoulders. He is the perfect man to replace Daniel Agger in this role.

The attributes put forward are irrelevant: leadership qualities are the only criteria. Has he got them? Lovren seems more of a leader.
