Brendan Rodgers is considering a move for former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes, according to ESPN.

32-year-old Valdes is being considered as the man to provide competition for Simon Mignolet, despite the fact he is out injured until November with knee ligament damage.

The Spaniard left Barcelona at the end of last season, after failing to agree a new contract at the Nou Camp.

He was set to join French moneybags Monaco, but saw the deal collapse at the last moment.

Still a free agent, Brendan Rodgers may turn his attentions to the experienced goalkeeper before the close of the transfer window, having sold Pepe Reina to Bayern Munich for £2million this summer.

The Liverpool boss hopes to add a proven goalkeeper to challenge Mignolet to complete a successful summer of business for the Reds, who have so far signed nine first team players.
