The future stars of Anfield were in action recently as the Liverpool Under 21s and Under 18s teams both recorded draws.

The Under 21s team faced bitter rivals Manchester United at Anfield on Friday evening and in an entertaining fixture led 1-0 shortly after the half time break. The goal came from Jordan Lussey who smartly placed a free-kick from the edge of the box into the bottom corner. Frustratingly for boss Alex Inglethorpe, though, the lead lasted a matter of seconds as United were level only moments later. Despite future chances neither team could find a winner at the game finished 1-1.

Liverpool team: Ward, McLaughlin, Stewart, Williams, Jones, Rossiter, Wilson (Canos), Lussey (Pelosi), Ojo, Brannagan, Peterson (Yesil).
Unused substitutes: Maguire, Vigouroux.

On Saturday, the Under 18s faced a tricky match with Derby County at the Academy and in a lively encounter rescued a point in a 2-2 draw. The young reds side went a goal down before levelling through a Tom Brewitt header. After that the advantage seemed to be with the visitors as Liverpool’s went down to ten men, Lewis Travis receiving a straight red, before Derby scored a second. Jerome Sinclair popped up late on though to salvage a point for the Reds.

Liverpool U18s: Firth, Travis, Hart, Brewitt, Roberts, Ejaria, Canos, Phillips, Sinclair, Marsh, Kent. Subs: Polgar, Jackson, Nicholas, Whelan, Maxwell.
