One would think that if Liverpool win the Premier League it will be all smiles around the club. But there may be some unhappy faces in the finance department at Anfield come the end of the season as the Reds will have to pay Portsmouth around £1million if they win the Premier League title – because of a clause in Glen Johnson’s contract.

Glen Johnson joined Liverpool for £17.5million from the Portsmouth in the summer of 2009, and there was a clause in this deal which stated that Liverpool would have to pay Pompey £1million if they win the league.

With Liverpool currently sitting top of the league with 6 games to go, I am sure Portsmouth will be urging the Reds to win the Premier League as they could do with the extra cash.

Portsmouth are close to the bottom of League Two and are said to be struggling financially so that £1million would really help.
