It is easy for some fans to forget that Pepe Reina is still a Liverpool player as he is only out on loan to Napoli this season. The writing was on the wall for Reina’s Liverpool career when Brendan Rodgers signed Simon Mignolet from Sunderland in the summer as the new number one. Couple Reina’s dip in form and his high wages, it only made sense to send him out on loan this season with a view of a permanent transfer this summer. But there is still no clear indication as to where Reina will be playing next season and the Liverpool goalkeeper is also in the dark about his future.

“I don’t know where I’ll be next year, but my plan is to enjoy this season and do a good job. Then I’ll have to go to Liverpool and make a decision. They have to explain to me what their intentions are, but I’m not currently up to speed on all of the possible offers which might come in, because that’s a job for my agent,” Reina told MARCA.

It was thought that Reina would be making a move back to Barcelona after his loan spell at Napoli but now it seems like the Spanish giants have other ideas as they have already signed Ter Stegen for next season. Napoli have ruled out signing Reina past his current loan spell. I am sure they will still be many clubs keen to sign Reina in the summer if Barcelona do not come to the party as he is still a very good goalkeeper. It would be great to have him as the second choice keeper at Anfield but I am not sure he will would enjoy sitting on the bench and from a financial point of view, it does not make sense to pay him a fortune for sitting on the bench.

Where do you think Reina will end up playing next season?

I very much doubt Rodgers will have him even as a back-up . If would mix Mig & Pepe together we would have great keeper , his restarting of play is far better than Migs but his mobility is now poor. Pepe is going to have to take a big cut in salary if wants another job .

Now that Barcelona don’t want him, he has changed his tune. A great servant of the club, Pepe has only himself to blame. It was his public displays of wanting to play for Barcelona that got Rodgers to get Mignolet. Should have kept his mouth shut till he signed for the Catalan club.
