Liverpool striker Iago Aspas’ future at the club is up in the air as his agent is seeking to discuss his future with the powers that be at Anfield according to a report in the Daily Star.

Aspas was a summer signing from Celta Vigo and was seen as a saftey net in case Luis Suarez left Liverpool in the summer. The Spanish striker looked very good in pre-season for the Reds and he got his chance to shine in the Premier League as he started whilst Suarez was still serving his 10 match ban. The Premier League was a huge step-up for Aspas compared to pre-season as he struggled in the games he played in.

Suarez then returned and Aspas was forced onto the bench and he has not featured regularly in the first team since then. A thigh injury has also not helped his cause but now he is fit again and may finally get another chance to prove himself now that Daniel Sturridge is out injured.

But Aspas’ agent, Jose Rodriguez Baster, has confirmed several clubs have made enquiries over the 25-year-old striker.

“In two weeks I have a meeting in Liverpool with the Liverpool directors to analyse the future of Iago Aspas in January,” Rodriguez Baster said.

“Up to now the news in the papers is simply rumours.

“Some clubs have made enquiries, but the decision will be made by the directors at Liverpool.”

It will be interesting to see what comes out of those talks as I doubt Brendan Rodgers will be willing to let Aspas leave, even on loan, as he is still ultimately cover for our strikeforce. If Aspas is given a chance to play, I am sure he will prove his worth. Against Norwich, Liverpool were cruising to a win and that could have been a perfect opportunity to bring Aspas in off the bench and play for 20 minutes, but Rodgers opted not to.

It would be seen as a major transfer blunder if Rodgers ships Aspas off so soon after signing him.
