Liverpool are ready to make a move for Chelsea left back Ryan Bertrand in the January transfer window according to The Telegraph.

The Reds first choice left back, Jose Enrique has been ruled out of action for 10 weeks following knee surgery and now Brendan Rodgers needs to decide what to do with this position. Currently Liverpool have Aly Cissokho who is on loan from Valencia who you would expect to come in for Enrique. But in the few games Cissokho has featured in, he has look for from convincing. In the Merseyside Derby played at the weekend, Rodgers decided to pick 20-year old Jon Flanagan to play at left back ahead of Enrique. Flanagan did very well considering he is a right back. For the immediate term, it looks like the Liverpool manager may stick with Flanagan at left back until the January window opens and he is able to reinforce.

Brendan Rodgers has hinted that he may just have to go into the transfer market to find a solution for this position. Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand could be a very good signing for Liverpool if Chelsea are willing to sell.

Chelsea rejected an approach from Liverpool for the defender in the summer, with the 24-year-old wishing to remain at the London club in a bid to win a place in the starting lineup. But he has struggled to force his way into the team despite Ashley Cole’s rib injury, with Jose Mourinho opting to move César Azpilicueta across to left back. Meaning that Bertrand is the third choice left back at Chelsea right now and he would be better off joining Liverpool where he has a very good shot at being the number one.
