Former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia has spoken out about his desire to hopefully manage Liverpool one day. Hyypia is currently the manager of Bayer Leverkusen and has been doing relatively well there since his appointment in May 2012.

In a conversation with former team-mate Jamie Carragher, Hyypia revealed a return to Liverpool is something he would welcome.

He told the Sky Sports pundit: “Many people have asked me – ‘Where would I want to manage?’

“There are two special places for me; I was at Liverpool for 10 years so that would be great.

“That doesn’t mean it’s a target – but it would be something special.

“And I come from Finland – and the Finnish national coach is the biggest job there. It’s also not a target but it would be great.”

Carragher himself has been earmarked as a potential future manager whilst current captain Steven Gerrard also harbours ambitions of being the Liverpool boss one day.

Carragher is currently a football pundit after retiring at the end of last season. Many had thought that Carragher would take up a coaching role instead of spending time on the TV but I guess he still has plenty of time to decide what he wants to do with the rest of his life.

It would be interesting to see who FSG decide to go with if or when they ever do want to replace Brendan Rodgers. They could opt to go with one of the ex Liverpool players although none of them would have experience managing a top flight team or would they opt to go with a big name manager? Hopefully this is not a decision they have to make any time soon as Rodgers is doing a steady job for now.

Which player would you like to see managing Liverpool?
