Liverpool have been dealt a big blow with the news that Jose Enrique is set to be out for 10 weeks which means we will only see him play in the new year.

Enrique has successfully undergone a knew operation and the club said on Liverpoolfc.com:

Liverpool Football Club can confirm that Jose Enrique has successfully undergone arthroscopic surgery to resolve an issue with his right knee.

The Spaniard has not started for the Reds since the 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace on October 5.

While the full-back made a second-half appearance against Fulham earlier this month, manager Brendan Rodgers last week confirmed the 27-year-old would require a procedure.

Enrique is expected to return to full training at Melwood in around 10 weeks’ time.

Enrique has been Liverpool’s stand out left back and following his injury, Aly Cissokho has slotted in at left back but he has not covered himself in much glory. The French left back, on loan for the season from Valencia, may now get an opportunity to impress with the news that Enrique is out for some time.

But on Saturday in the Merseyside Derby, Brendan Rodgers decided to play young Jon Flanagan at left back at the defender did very well there. It will be interesting to see if Rodgers sticks with Flanagan at left back or give Cissokho a chance.
