One of the worst kept transfer secrets is finally out as Barcelona have confirmed that they are interested in signing Pepe Reina from Liverpool according to the Daily Star.

Reina, who is currently on loan for the season at Italian club Napoli is seen as a potential successor to Victor Valdes.

There has been a lot of speculation as to where Reina would move to following the arrival of Simon Mignolet in the summer from Sunderland. Mignolet has gone on to establish himself as Liverpool’s number one and would more than likely keep Reina on the bench if the Spanish keeper were ever to return to Liverpool. But Barcelona have now admitted that they could sign Reina.

“We have been looking for a goalkeeper since Valdes announced he wanted to leave,” said Barcelona Vice-President Josep Maria Bartomeu to RAC1.

“We are in highly advanced negotiations. If Valdes says officially where he will go to in January, we will announce the new goalkeeper for Barcelona.

“Our idea is to sign only one goalkeeper.

“Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Pepe Reina are within our range of options, which is already very small.”

Now this will be interesting for Reina; what if Barcelona decide to go for Marc-Andre Ter Stegen? Then Reina may be forced to find another club and his dream of returning to his boyhood club in Spain may be over. I am sure there will be a lot of suitors though for Reina if Barcelona turn him down.
