Kenny Dalglish believes that Luis Suarez will not leave Liverpool this January and that the Reds need to spend some money and bring in new players in January if they are to finish in the top four.

Speaking in his Mirror column the former Liverpool manager said, “There will be speculation about Luis Suarez leaving the Reds. There always is. But I don’t think he’s going anywhere.

“He’s thriving in this Liverpool team and everyone at Anfield knows he is crucial to maintaining a challenge.”

It is highly unlikely that Liverpool will be willing to sell Suarez in January. The club did all they could to hang onto him in the summer so he could help take the team into the top four. It would not make sense to then try sell him in January, half way through the top four challenge. The decision on Suarez’s future will most likely come at the end of the season. If the Reds make the top four then Suarez will most likely stay but I am pretty sure if we do not end up there, we could lose our number seven.

It is highly important to finish in the top four, not just so that Suarez has reason to stay but also for the financial benefits the club would reap from being in the Champions League again. And for Liverpool to make sure they build on their great start this season, Dalglish is of the opinion that we have to buy some more players in the January transfer window to strengthen the squad.

Dalglish added, “It has got to the stage now where, if they buy in January, I think both (Liverpool and Southampton) might have a real chance of staying up there.

“We know that the top teams will all strengthen. Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City will all buy in the next window.

“So, if they can – if finances allow it – then Liverpool and Southampton need to do the same.

“If they do that, the rewards could be considerable. They have got themselves in position. Now they have to try to seize their opportunity.”

I am sure FSG will allow Rodgers to spend in January but not knowing how much he will have. The bigger question is which players is Rodgers able to bring in. January is a very tricky transfer window but last January the Liverpool manager was able to bring in Sturridge and Coutinho who have both been stars for the side. If we are able to bring in a quality central midfielder who can have a similar impact to those two then we are well on our way to a top four finish.
