Jordan Henderson has been ever present for Liverpool this season, having been asked to play in three different roles by Brendan Rodgers. You can find Henderson at right back, central midfield or attacking midfield and it is this versatility that has resulted in him being called up to the England squad for the upcoming friendlies against Chile and Germany.
The question then becomes, what is Henderson’s best position? Looking at the current situation at Liverpool; Steven Gerrard does not have too many years ahead of him and he will be asked to play a much deeper role in midfield and we need another player to compliment him who has bags of energy to get up and down the field; this is were Henderson should be.
We saw against Fulham that he played a more attacking role and was pressing high up the field when we did not have possession and when we had the ball he was creating opportunities for the strikers.
If you look based on Henderson’s performance against Fulham, he has the opportunity to flourish as an attacking midfielder but I would like to see him play more as a box-to-box midfielder as he certainly has the engine to do that. He would have to improve though on some of his decision making and work on his shooting as he would have to chip in with ten or so goals a season.
Hendo is still only 23-years old and still has a few more seasons to reach his peak. He is perfectly positioned to do so as he is at a top club which gives him opportunities to play in midfield, coupled with the fact that he can learn from one of the greatest midfielders to ever play the game in Steven Gerrard.
Henderson has received a lot of stick from Liverpool fans since he was signed by Kenny Dalglish in 2011 from Sunderland. It was said that Liverpool paid £20million for his services and that weighed heavily on the player as he struggled in his debut season. But now as the seasons have gone on, Henderson is starting to get better and better and the fans are warming up to him as you can see from the comments below:
Liverpool destroyed Fulham with ease today. Jordan Henderson was fantastic again. Coutinho a joy to watch.

if he continues to work hard he can play a very crucial role in Liverpool’s midfield especially in the defensive midfield aspect.
