Steven Gerrard was asked by ESPN if Luis Suarez is the best player he has played with during his time at Liverpool.

“Yes. Simple. He’s out on his own,” Gerrard answered. “The only player who comes close to producing what Luis produced in a red shirt is Fernando Torres… but Luis just pipped him for me.”

As a player, there is no doubt that Suarez has to be better than Torres during both their times at Liverpool. Suarez does some things on the field that I am sure even his own teammates wonder how he did that. What Suarez has now improved on since joining Liverpool is finding the back of the net. In his first couple of months at Liverpool, we saw a lot of Suarez’s skills and trickery but very few goals. Now he has worked on his finishing and is chalking up the goals.

When you look at Torres, one thing that sticks out during his spell at Anfield is the partnership he had with Steven Gerrard. One just has to look at the video below to see how great their partnership was.

I guess what made the Gerrard – Torres combination work is that Stevie was playing as an attacking midfielder / supporting striker and thus they worked well together. Now Gerrard is more withdrawn and he does not have the legs anymore to be making the forward runs he used to make in 2008 – 2009 with Torres.

But now we have an equally formidable partnership between Suarez and Sturridge and this one looks like it could overshadow Gerrard and Torres.
